Beginning at 5:00 PM Pacific Standard Time on Friday, March 19, 2010, Graduate Services will be observing the UC Berkeley Spring Break closure and Cesar Chavez holiday. We will reopen at 9:00 AM Pacific Standard Time on Monday, March 29, 2010, and at this time normal Graduate Services hours will resume. A complete listing of our hours for March can be found here. Enjoying your Naked Lunch: Graduate Services Hours for the Thanksgiving Holiday

Graduate Services will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday starting at 5PM Wednesday, November 25th, 2009 and ending at 1PM Sunday, November 29th.This means we will be closed Thursday and Friday along with our usual Saturday closure (yes, we are not one of the libraries that got the Chancellor’s reprieve). To lighten the blow of these closures, and for all those that missed the various celebrations around town last week commemorating 50 years of William S. Burroughs’ Naked Lunch (of which various editions of this book can be found in Graduate Services Modern Authors Collection), below is the Modern Author himself reading his "Thanksgiving Prayer" directed by Academy Award winner, Gus Van Sant. Merry Thanksgiving to everyone and a thank you to Daily Motion.com for the video.

Hours in Graduate Services: The Good News and the Not So Good but Not Quite Bad News

Starting July 6th, Graduate Services will be open earlier AND later during the week and on Sundays. The new hours are Monday through Thursday, 9AM-9PM; Friday, 9AM-5PM; and Sunday, 1PM-9PM. What about Saturdays though? Due to budget cuts, Graduate Services will not be open on Saturdays anymore. The bright side? This means you get an extra day off from your studies with a built in excuse. No more another Friday night-that-was-so-good-Saturday-isn’t-really-going-so-well-but-I-really-should-be-studying-right-now-though-I-can’t guilty feeling. Graduate Services is here for you even when we’re not. And now we will be open on Sundays again too. Just so you know, we will not take responsibility for your Saturday nights.

Graduate Services Hours for the rest of the summer:
Monday-Thursday, 9AM-9PM
Friday, 9AM-5PM
Saturday, Closed
Sunday, 1PM-9PM

These hours can also be found here.

Worth the wait: OskiCat goes live June 24th, 2009

The UC Berkeley Library will not thrust a product on its patrons that does not meet the high standards of such a distinguished institution. As a result, the go live date for the new library catalog, OskiCat, has been pushed back from June 16, 2009 to June 24, 2009. A few kinks needed to be worked out, but it’ll be worth the wait, trust me. In the meantime, do a little recon and take a look at the Library Tutorials Page for a sneak preview of this OskiCat.

What is this OskiCat you speak of?

Have you been wondering what all that chalk graffiti around campus referring to an OskiCat is about? No, we are not changing our lovable school mascot Oski from a bear to a cat. What we are changing though, is our school’s library catalog from GLADIS/Pathfinder to OskiCat–the Cat part being short for catalog. Beginning June 16th, 2009, OskiCat will go live, and GLADIS/Pathfinder will simply just go. Don’t worry, the Library will give GLADIS/Pathfinder a proper burial before we give you, the user, a more bearable path to your research needs. Still trying to get your bearings straight, for more information about OskiCat go to the webpage and view the preview. Hibernation is over, the bear that is a cat will be here soon.

Library Copy-Print-Scan Services Survey in Graduate Services

Do you want to have a say in the copy-print-scan services the Library offers? Well, a survey to get feedback on what copy-print-scan services library patrons currently use and what services they need that are not currently provided can be found next to the copy machine in Graduate Services. Survey forms will be there until the end of finals. Fill one out, and give us some feedback Merzbow would be proud of.
