Contemporary Mathematics ebooks available
The American Mathematical Society is moving into ebook territory with the launch of its Contemporary Mathematics ebooks series. The library recently purchased this online version, providing campus with access to the complete backfile of this series of high-quality, refereed proceedings. New volumes will become available online as they are published.
Links to individual volumes will eventually be loaded into our catalog so you can find them in OskiCat and Melvyl. They should also appear in UC-eLinks so you can link to them directly from MathSciNet.
Proxy server changes affect some users
On Tuesday April 24, the library made major changes to its proxy server, used for off-campus access to journals, ebooks, article databases, and other licensed electronic resources. These changes improve efficiency and security, and also simplify setup requirements in most cases.
Most users will see no changes, and your existing set-up should continue to work. However, the new proxy server does have new requirements related to cookies and changes to the Patron/PIN login method. Please see the What’s New in the Library article about this change for more information.
Enyclopedia of Mathematics
Springer and the European Mathematical Society have partnered on this open access Encyclopedia of Mathematics wiki. Based on the high-quality Encyclopaedia of Mathematics published by Kluwer in 2002, this comprehensive graduate-level encyclopedia includes “more than 8,000 entries, illuminating nearly 50,000 notions in mathematics.” Members of the mathematics community are invited to use and contribute to the Encyclopedia; all contributions are reviewed by an editorial board at the European Mathematical Society to maintain the quality of this online reference work.

Help us improve Melvyl
The UC Libraries are trying to get a better understanding of how people use Melvyl, and we need your help!
We are looking for UC Berkeley juniors, seniors, and graduate students, who would like to show us how you use the Melvyl system. If you use Melvyl for your academic work, we’re interested in speaking with you.
These sessions will take place on Thursday, April 26 in Moffitt Library. In exchange for about an hour of your time, we’ll give you a $25 gift certificate to the Cal Student Store.
If you are interested in helping us, please sign up at http://tinyurl.com/apr12-ucb by Wednesday, April 18.
If you have questions about this project, please email Lynn Jones:
