Universal return debuts
The Library is pleased to announce the public launch of our universal return service. Thanks to this new service, library borrowers are now able to return most circulating materials to any library location, and are no longer required to walk each item back to the owning library.
Exceptions to universal return include the following:
- course reserves
- interlibrary loan materials must be returned to ILL in Doe 133
- special items such as maps, music scores, and media must be returned to the owning library
- Law Library items must be returned there
DMPTool for data management plans
Need to write a data management plan for a grant application? Give the DMPTool a try! This tool walks you through funding agencies’ data management plan templates providing guidance, suggested answers, and additional resources for each question. The DMPTool currently supports data management plans for NSF, NIH, NOAA, and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation among others. Login with your CalNet ID to create, save, and manage your plans.
Check out our guide on data management and sharing for additional help and information. If you have questions, please contact your subject librarian or data-consult@lists.berkeley.edu.
Recent Acquisitions lists restored
Production of our Recent Acquisitions lists has resumed. These lists contain titles cataloged or recataloged during the last 60 days, and they can be viewed online or via RSS feeds. If you have subscribed to any of these RSS feeds, you should be seeing updates once again.
Recent Acqusitions lists temporarily suspended
Due to the volume of new records currently being loaded into OskiCat through the HathiTrust catalog records project, we needed to temporarily suspend our Recent Acquisitions lists. These lists of new books and other new materials will again be updated regularly once our initial loading of HathiTrust records is completed.
Update (8/22/2012): Recent Acquisitions lists have been restored.

AGU ebooks now available
We now have access to ebooks published by the American Geophysical Union through AGU Digital Library Books (1956-2012) thanks to a one-time purchase by the California Digital Library. The collection includes 17 book series and 580 book titles. Eventually, these ebooks will appear in OskiCat; in the meantime, you can access them directly at http://www.agu.org/pubs/dlibrary/#books.
LBNL Library now in OskiCat
You may have noticed a new library location in OskiCat – Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (LBNL)!
On July 30, over 17,000 records from the LBNL Library were added to our library catalog. What does this change mean for you?
- Campus patrons can now request items from the LBNL Library to pick up at any campus library (just like they can do for NRLF items)
- LBNL staff can request and check out materials from campus libraries using their LBNL photo ID
- LBNL staff can request items from libraries at other universities using the Request option in Melvyl
- People with joint UCB/LBNL appointments are considered campus patrons and will continue to use their Cal1 cards as their library cards
If you have any questions about this exciting development, please be sure to ask your librarian.
Note: The Request button does not yet appear in OskiCat for LBNL Library items, so campus patrons cannot place requests themselves at this time. Very soon, this problem will be fixed. In the meantime, please ask circulation desk staff to place requests for LBNL Library materials for you.
Melvyl Request and My ILL unavailable this weekend
The Request feature will be unavailable in Melvyl and UC-eLinks from 5:00 p.m. Friday, July 13 through 8:00 a.m. Monday, July 16 during migration of our interlibrary loan (ILL) systems to new servers. My ILL, where you can view the status of your current ILL requests, will also be unavailable. If you need to make an interlibrary borrowing request over the weekend, please use the UC Berkeley interlibrary request forms.
