Drawing on medieval and early modern Iberian and French manuscripts in The Bancroft Library, this talk discusses fragmentary archival material both as testimonies of determined literary and historiographical works and as cultural phenomena with an impact on institutions, individual bodies, and consciousness. It examines how and why fragments are used and reconstituted today.
