DOAJ secures long-term preservation for open access journals

Many of the 4,000 titles listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) are from small publishers that are "fragile when it comes to financial, technical and administrative sustainability." These journals publish fulltext scientific and scholarly articles in all subjects and languages, and are free to everyone with web access.

So the announcement on April 1st that Lund University Libraries and the e-Depot of the National Library of the Netherlands are undertaking to secure long-term preservation of these open access journals is especially significant. The Swedish Library Association is also sponsoring this effort to ensure the future availability of these publications.
