Librarian wins Chancellor’s Distinguished Service Award

Elizabeth Byrne, Head of the Environmental Design Library, has won the Chancellor’s Distinguished Service Award for 2011.

Since joining the Environmental Design Library in 1984, Byrne has led the way in establishing the library as one of top architecture, landscape, and planning libraries in North America. She was also recently the co-editor of Design on the Edge, which traces the history of architectural education at Berkeley.

To quote from the nomination letter, ” … the Environmental Design Library is the heart of the college, and the jewel in the crown of Berkeley’s branch libraries, and Elizabeth Byrne is one of this university’s treasures.”
