On February 8, ABC 7 News aired a story about the Rosie the Riveter / WWII American Homefront oral history project. The story focused on the Regional Oral History Office’s work in collaboration with the National Park Service and the City of Richmond to document first-hand accounts of social and cultural change in the United States during World War II.
A portion of the story was filmed during a recent interview with Edythe “Edie” Esser of Concord, California. Esser worked in prefabrication at the Kaiser shipyards during the war.
The project has already completed over 100 interviews with individuals from around the Bay Area, and continues to seek potential participants to add to our diverse and growing collection of oral histories. We are also interested in speaking to individuals with experiences relating to Port Chicago Naval Magazine, which recently became a national park.
