Maps and More: Panama-Pacific Exposition

Maps and More is a monthly collections show-and-tell at the Earth Sciences and Map Library, 50 McCone Hall. For the February edition of Maps and More we’ll be looking at maps from the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco. The exposition celebrated the Panama Canal‘s completion and was an opportunity to showcase the city’s recovery from the 1906 earthquake. The 77km Panama ship canal that connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean was one of the greatest engineering feats of the 20th century and stimulated international maritime commerce.
