Here are some things you can do through the library website at times when the libraries are closed.

Most of these resources are available only to UC Berkeley students, faculty, and staff; for details, see Connecting from Off Campus.

• Search OskiCat and compile a list of items to get after we reopen.  You can also save “preferred searches” to re-run later on, and be notified when we get new items matching those searches.  [Details]
• Read an e-book.  OskiCat has links to over 400,000 online items.  To limit your search to these, pull down the menu labeled “Entire Collection” and click on the first option, “Available Online.”
• Look up journal, magazine, and newspaper articles in our article databases.  In many cases, you can read the full text of the article online.
• Explore over 1,000 electronic resources, including archives, book and film reviews, image and sound databases, encyclopedias, atlases, and much more.
• Listen to past programs in the City Arts & Lectures radio series or recordings from the Free Speech Movement of the 1960s.
• Pay a virtual visit to our online exhibits, many containing material not available elsewhere.

All services provided by OCLC (Melvyl catalog, FirstSearch databases, etc.) will be unavailable during system maintenance from 11pm on Saturday March 3 through 5am on Sunday March 4.

For a list of the databases affected, search “OCLC” here.

CalNet authentication for functions within OskiCat will be unavailable from 8am until approximately 9am on  Wednesday March 14, while we perform a software upgrade.

During this time, users will still be able to login with the “Patron/PIN” method.

The following services will be unavailable from 1 am through as late as 4 am on Saturday morning March 24, while we perform scheduled maintenance:

• OskiCat, the UC Berkeley library catalog (including searching, request, and renewal functions).
• UCB call number and availability information in Melvyl.
• Melvyl Request login and My ILL Requests.
• The library proxy server for accessing licensed electronic resources (VPN will still work).

• Encyclopedia of Arabic Language and Literature: from “Address, terms of” to “Za’id”
• Eurobarometer Surveys: public opinion and issues in the European Union
• Odum Archive Dataverse: repository of all Louis Harris public opinion data

• Did you know? Users can enter the terms “public opinon polls” in the Electronic resources: locate by title search box and find serveral good public opinion and polling resources.

• Dissertations and Theses @ University of California (incorporated into the entry for Dissertations and Theses (Dissertation Abstracts))
• Information Research Watch International (IRWI) (cancelled)
