Visualizing History: Mapping the 1915 San Francisco World’s Fair

Photo of ornate buildings, bright lights, firecrackers in sky

Celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1915 San Francisco Panama-Pacific International Exhibition (PPIE) by digitally mapping rarely seen photographs of the world’s fair onto a historic map of the fairgrounds using the Historypin platform.

Join us on Thursday, November 19, for Visualizing History: Mapping the 1915 San Francisco World’s Fair. The event will kick off with a tour of the Bancroft Library’s PPIE exhibit by Curator Theresa Salazar at 4pm, followed by a reception and talk by Laura Ackley, author of San Francisco’s Jewel City: The Panama-Pacific International Exposition of 1915, in the Morrison Library at 4:30. Participants will explore archival images of the world’s fair, find the exact locations where the photos were taken and post the results live to the Historypin PPIE site.
