Fall 2010 GIS workshops at UCB’s Geospatial Innovation Facility

UC Berkeley’s Geospatial Innovation Facility (GIF) recently announced its Fall 2010 workshop schedule.

Classes include:
* Intro to GIS (with either a Social Science or a Natural Resource Science focus)
* Intro to GPS
* Intro to Remote Sensing
* Intro to Open Source GIS
* Creating your own webGIS with Google Maps

and more!

You need not be affiliated with UC Berkeley to enroll. Workshop fees are $224 for all non-UC affiliates. For all UC students (graduate and undergraduate), faculty, and staff the subsidized rate is $84. The GIF also offers online guides, fee-based consulting, and more. Check it out!

Horizons Operations Research on HIV/AIDS Toolkit

September 22nd Sacramento Instruction Session: EndNote X4 Basics Hands on

* Do you have the EndNote program but are not sure what it can do for you?

* Do you write journal articles or reports where you need to cite literature you’ve read or referenced?

* Are you already using EndNote and have some burning questions?

* Are you interested in a hands-on session so you can learn and practice using EndNote?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then please come to the Sheldon Margen Public Health Library’s EndNote X4 Basics Hands on class! Come and see what new features version X4, which just came out in June 2010, has.

Topics covered will include:
1. Basics of using EndNote X4: display, navigation, etc.
2. How to add PubMed and other citations into EndNote
3. How to use “Cite While You Write” with Microsoft Word
4. How to get help

Class: EndNote X4 Basics Hands on

Audience:
This class is intended for CDPH staff who may have a basic understanding of the EndNote software program but don’t know how to use its features. Users of other versions of EndNote are welcome to attend. The EndNote X4 software will not be distributed at this class; in order for you to use this software for your work, your CDPH unit must purchase or already own a copy.

September 8th Richmond Instruction Session: EndNote X4 Advanced Hands on

* Do you write journal articles and want to learn about a tool that helps you prepare manuscripts for submission to various journal publishers?

* Do you want to learn how to create or modify existing output styles?

* Want to learn how to add and format figures and tables to your Word document Using EndNote?

* Are you interested in a hands-on session so you can practice using advanced features of EndNote?

If you’ve answered “Yes” to any of these questions, then please come to the Sheldon Margen Public Health Library’s EndNote X4 Advanced Hands On class! This class will be held at the Richmond campus in the Computer Training Room, P-1246.

Topics covered will include:
1. Creating Smart Groups
2. Creating and Using Term Lists
3. Adding/Modifying Output Styles
4. Creating and Using Bibliographies: Individual and Subject
5. Advanced Features of Cite-While-You-Write (templates, figures, tables)

This class is intended for CDPH staff who already have and are using the EndNote software program, and who wish to learn more advanced features (see class description above). Users of any version of EndNote are welcome to attend. The EndNote X4 software will not be distributed at this class; in order for you to use this software for your work, you or your CDPH unit must purchase or already own it.

Prerequisite:
It is highly recommended that you have already attended the EndNote X4 Basics Hands On class, or be familiar with the basics of using EndNote.  Basic EndNote material will not be covered in the Sept. 8 session.

Please note: This class is limited to 16 participants. A waiting list will be created if necessary for an additional class.
