UC Berkeley library reaches 10 million-plus volumes

The University of California, Berkeley's library collection now numbers over 10 million volumes. University Librarian Thomas Leonard commented that "students and faculty expect the Library to take them as far as their curiosity reaches, and collections that spin out to 10 million volumes show that we are up to the challenge. An equal marvel is that we have a library staff who work in all the disciplines and languages required to assemble this knowledge."

Each year, the Association of Research Libraries ranks North American educational institutions, using quantitative measures of library collections, expenditures, support, and staffing. In 2005, the UC Berkeley Library ranks the first among all public universities in the United States, and fourth among all U.S. and Canadian universities.
